James Street Commons

Elizabeth Del Tufo, founding member of the Newark Preservation and Landmarks Committee and Newark’s premier voice on historic preservation in the city, talks about the James Street Commons Historic District. The neighborhood’s nineteenth century architecture survived the city’s urban renewal wrecking ball of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The James Street Commons Historic District embodies a strong community spirit amidst the challenges of living in a downtown district.
