Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center, founded as Wheaton Village in 1968, is a nonprofit organization with a mission to engage artists and audiences in an evolving exploration of creativity. Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center is planning to provide a wide spectrum of public programs that would not only interpret the rich history and influence of the American roots music on various aspects of the American culture but would provide a context connecting its meanings and aesthetics to our local traditions, communities and cultural resources.

Roots Connections: Instruments, Sites and Sounds of South Jersey is a multilayered public program, which includes additional displays, performances and educational programs communicating to our audiences the local contributions to this great American tradition. Through a variety of instruments, photographs, memorabilia, stories, and musical records, the Roots Connections displays will provide insights to the South Jersey versions of the blue grass and old time country musical traditions. The items will be borrowed from the private collections of local musicians.

Wheaton Arts is also planning an oral history program that would include fieldwork training sessions for the participants in the program and recording sessions with local musicians and community members.

Additionally on the schedule are two concerts that will feature local performers of old time country and bluegrass music as well as gospel singers.

As part of its continuous effort to educate audiences of all ages through participation in various creative experiences, Wheaton Arts will provide several programs involving local instrument makers and musicians.
